Note from our Executive Director Rob Hess, PhD:

On October 19, the movie "Canvas" will open at the
Harkins Shea 14 and will play for one week. It focuses
on schizophrenia in a family and is one of the few films
that is authentic in its depiction of schizophrenia. It
stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden,
Emmy winner Joe Pantaliano (The Sopranos), and
Devon Gearhart and has received excellent reviews.
Variety, for example, states that audiences “will
experience the joy of discovery in Greco's fact-based
drama -- not just in its perspective on schizophrenia
and the effect of the disease on one Florida family, but
in Joe Pantoliano's cliché-demolishing performance."

We’ve arranged for Joe Greco, who is the
writer/director, and Joe Pantaliano to come to Phoenix
on October 18th to publicize Canvas. You and your
friends are invited to join them that day at a reception at
Art Awakenings from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. Art Awakenings
is located at 1014 N 2nd Street in Phoenix, just north of
Roosevelt. The telephone number is 602-340-1675 if
you get lost.

Please pass this invitation on and encourage people
to go to the movie, especially on the 19th, 20th, and
21st as Harkins will used those three nights to
determine if it should have a longer run or be shown in
other theaters. And on the 18th, come and have some
cheese, check out some art, and hang with a couple of
Joes.
